8/26/03

I've learned lots of new things since the last time we chatted.  First and foremost is walking, which I have down quite well now.  When I first learned to walk, I always kept my arms in this position--mommy and daddy could never figure out why.  They thought I looked like a superhero ("Here I come to save the day!")!

I've also been learning how to draw--but it is SO hard to stay on the paper sometimes!  Mommy showed me how to write my name, but I'm not quite sure how to do that yet.

I've also experimented with painting at the Children's Museum in Boston.  I made cards for my grandparents.

Eh...can't quite reach the "q" in this position!  Where does my pinkie go again, daddy?

One of my newest tricks is imitating animals--I can make sounds like a doggie, a cat, a horse, and sometimes a cow and a bird.  Here I'm imitating a squirrel--just imagine me smacking my lips and pretending to eat an acorn!

Hey, grandma, is that you?  How'd you get in this little thingy?  Come and see me soon, okay?

My newest favorite thing is definitely brushing teeth.  Mommy and daddy hooked me up with this little electric toothbrush that I just love!  Every time they brush their teeth I HAVE to brush mine, too.

Hurry, hurry, before mommy and daddy see me...I wonder if they'd notice if I borrowed the car for just a few minutes to go to the playground!  I'm getting pretty good at putting keys in locks.

I've also been experimenting with static electricity at the playground!  Watch out, mommy, I'm electrified!

At Grandma and Grandpa Fisher's house I learned how to jump on the trampoline!

I've also learned how to indicate that I don't know where something is--I just lift up my hand like this and say "Uh? Uhuh?" [it's hard to write kiddie noises!]  I can't really speak yet, but I can understand almost everything mommy and daddy say.

I also can now crawl on chairs--and even on to the table!  But I know I'm not supposed to...

I also love to push things around--especially my toys!

Grandma Fisher has a shopping cart I can push around, too!

Whoa!  How many can I fit on here!

C'mon, Pooh!  Let's go for a ride!

I've also been getting into EVERYTHING!  Oh, was this laundry clean, mommy?  I was trying to help!

Mommy, we're running a little low on the soy sauce, so I just set it over there, okay?  And the lemon juice might be bad--the expiration date is from last month.  Other than that, you're all set!

HA!  I crawled in here all by myself!

Shhh!  Maybe they won't notice I'm in here!

Daddy, I want to go to Africa, too!

Mommy--what in the world is THAT?!!  It makes such a funny sound...hopefully it'll distract her so I can get my hands on all those buttons and pins underneath her chair...

Oh, I've also grown lots of teeth, as you can see from this picture!  And believe me, I've put them to good use--even on mommy and daddy's noses from time to time!  But mostly I've just been eating lots and lots.

Corn on the cob is a favorite food!  But the corn in Boston isn't as good as Grandma's in Pa.

I just loooove popsicles!

And Klondikes!

And cheese (although not so much recently)!

Okay, a little to the left...eating is so hard when you are sleepy!

Mmm, mommy, that is one yummy sandwich you made!

And of course, mommy and daddy neglect to feed my animals, so I take care of that part.  C'mon, Darby, have another pretzel stick!

Open up, George!  Don't you want to grow big and strong like me?

I've also been hanging out with lots of friends, some new and some old.  It's fun, cause they are all from different backgrounds and ethnicities!  The city is good that way.  Most of these friends have daddies at Harvard with my daddy.  My friend Riko is the second one from the left, and her new little sister Remi is on the far left.  I've been playing with Riko every week for almost half a year.

I NEVER get tired of the swing!  Here I'm hanging with Luka.

Ahh, we're taking a break from the playground to eat a Japanese snack.  This is my friend Riko--a regular playground buddy.

Here I'm bumping heads with Jim, our Greek chef here at the IFH, on the roof deck at our July 4 party.  He cooks all the yummy dinners during the week.  Kota from Japan is holding me.

Two of mommy and daddy's good friends just had babies!  Their names are Luka and Gabriella.  I thought I was small--but they make me look big!

Here are the proud mommies.

Are you talking to me (flutter, flutter)?

Hmmm...a sunflower.  Mommy started pointing flowers out to me recently, and now I make a big fuss whenever I see one!  I also really like dogs, horses, squirrels, airplanes, and birds.

Cheese!

We've traveled to Pennsylvania so much this summer.  It's always great to see Grandma and Grandpa Wenger!  Their porch swing is fun.

Grandpa, let me help!  I won't throw all the laundry all over the ground, I promise (heh, heh)!!

Ahh, the joy of power steering!  Okay, where's the gas pedal again?

Say, this little rocker you have is fun, Grandpa!

It's always hard to say goodbye...

I got to see my great-Grandma Shenk, too!

And my great-Grandma Beiler!

We visited Grandma and Grandpa Fisher, too.  I also stayed with them while mommy and daddy went to Africa.  They took such good care of me--as did Aunts Ann, Wilma, and Tiffany!

Daddy's whole family had a little party while we were down, so I got to see all my cousins!  I was too young to really hit the piņata, but I was good at picking up (and eating) the candy!

Hey, c'mon, where's MY bathing suit?

Daddy's family took a picture since they were all together.

Say, where are the power windows in this thing?  Must be one of those cheap models...

I'm a big helper--or at least it's what I call helping!

On the long car rides home, I have to keep myself occupied.  "Where's Eden?" is one of my favorite games!  I get SO excited and think that all of me is hidden if I can't see anything.

Hmm.  Very funny, daddy!  Say, someone in this pile needs a clean diaper!

I've been getting out a lot this summer, too.  Almost every evening we go for a bike ride or a walk to one of the local playgrounds.  I love to watch the water and the boats on the Charles River.

Okay, so, like, do I want my pink towel or my red towel to go to the beach?

I traveled with mommy, daddy, and some of the guys from the IFH when they went to George's Island in the Boston Harbor.  The boat ride was fun!  You can see Boston in the background.

On George's Island I had a few new experiences that I didn't like very much--one of which was this sandy beach!  Mommy and daddy called me a flamingo--I always kept one foot up.

YUCK!  What is this prickly stuff?!?  I've never felt that before!  I guess I really am a city kid--mommy and daddy tell me there is lots of this stuff out in the country.  I'll take their word for it.

Yawn...all this traveling makes me sleepy!  I can sleep anywhere--even doubled in half!

Vroom, vroom...where would you like to go today, mommy?

We frequent the Children's Museum a lot.  There is so much to explore there!

Beep!  Beep! Beep!  Comin' through!

Mommy and daddy brought two cool wooden chairs back from Africa.  Actually, I prefer the larger one and usually give the smaller one to my stuffed animals, but the little one is fine, too!

Ah, that's what I need--just a little bit of R-n-R!  Ahem, waiter, could I have an iced tea?  Okay, daddy, at least some milk?  Work with me here!

This African chair works well for watching cartoons...except that I really don't like to watch TV at all!  Soon after this picture was taken I was right back to wandering around and getting into trouble.  Nice try, mommy!

Thank you, thank you!  That's all for tonight, folks!  I'm just going to retire to my suite (ahem, nursery nook) and get some rest.  Thanks for coming out!
